The Double K Kitchen Studio Build-Update 5
Well, the Double K Kitchen is officially finished. These pics were taken just before the toe kicks and the kitchen entrance door jams were installed but we couldn’t wait to get the pics posted.
The tile turned out well despite the fact that it is a differnet flavor than the tile used in the Man Cave and Cznlsports Bar. Close but it is different. Part of me is still upset that the Tile Shop did not get us the right stuff in the first place….after all we did bring in the last remaining piece to match it up. Unfortunatly, they did not have that on displayed in their showroom and so I think where it went south was at that point. We did not open a box when we picked up the tile as it was all secured nicely on a pallet and the fork light may easy work putting into the Raptor back end. When we got it unloaded, that is when we knew it did not match…but by that time we like what we saw. The other troublespot was that this time was 6.5 inches tall versus the prior tile being 6.0 inches tall. That 1/2 inch made a difference with the spacing we left above the cabinets and below cabinets. We had prepped for the latter size during the install of the cabinets to limit the anticipated tile cuts we needed to make. But that all changed when we decided to keep the current tile. The other issue is that we got 11 boxes of tile and we ended up using 10. Of those 10 boxes, 5 of them had broken tiles. The only saving grace was that where the tile broke in most was at a joint between two stones…so that ended up workable.
Dawn has been a little apprehensive on trying the kitchen out for fear that she will just get it dirty….LOL! That never seemed to stop her in the upstairs kitchen that is for sure. I would have to agree with her slightly…it does look good clean and new! We both also pretty much agreed prior to actually building it that it would be the kitchen used mostly in the late fall to early spring months. You know the time from when the snow flies to when the first robin shows up for a visit in the spring. We usually hunker down in the Man Cave during those months anyway.
Football season is also arrived and that also means entertaining on a few Sundays for Viking Football. I think our friends have been monitoring our progress as most ask us how it is coming along. We continue to tell them visit the DoubleKKitchens.com site for the updates.
The new Kitchen will come in handy for preparing the serving of those game day appetizers. It will also minimize the traffic behind the Cznlsports Bar. With the addition of the kitchen, we may now need to invest in some new bar stools. I dont think we would retire/sell the current ones but they can be moved to the gaming/peanut table. I think guests would like to have a chair back when sitting at that table….I know my back sure would enjoy it.
I noticed I do not have a lot of pics of the Viking Man Cave or the Cznlsports Bar…so looks like I will have to get the camera out and get some posted here. Stay Tuned
